In memoriam
Abraham Rivera Public Service Excellence Scholarship

Abraham "Abe" Rivera was a seasoned cybersecurity and digital forensics expert whose inspiring career spans public service, private sector leadership, and academic mentorship. From his early days in IT with the NYPD to his role as Executive Director of IT and Investigative Operations at the NYC Department of Investigation, and later as an Incident Commander at NYC Cyber Command, Abe safeguarded the city through some of its most critical technological transitions.

As an Adjunct Lecturer at John Jay College for over 14 years, he’s mentored hundreds of students, many of whom credit their careers to his insightful and unwavering guidance. Born and raised in the Bronx, Abe was a proud John Jay College MPA graduate, passionate salsa dancer, Yankees fan, and conga player. He lived in New York with his wife Adriana, their two dogs, Whiskey and Tango, and Baby, a spirited 16-year-old cockatiel.
