First-Year Orientation

Your journey to becoming a Fierce Advocate for Justice at John Jay starts here!

Your new student orientation
We put together a robust program for you to learn all about your new home – John Jay College! The sessions below will introduce you to campus life, important resources, and your new classmates.

Your New Student Orientation has two parts: the Online Orientation Portal and the in-person New Student Orientation sessions. Completing both parts will ensure that you are prepared for your first semester at John Jay and connected to other new students!

After you submit your deposit to John Jay College of Criminal Justice, you will receive an email with a link to your New Student portal and where you will register for the in-person New Student Orientation session. This is your home base! Accessing the Online Orientation Portal, register for NSO, claim your email, and much more.

The New Student Orientation process is designed to help you settle into John Jay College. It is not intended to replace your advising session or registration steps.  For more information about advisement, click here.

Fall 2024
August 12, 2024, August 14th OR August 15th (only attend one session)
Check in: 8:45am
NSO: 9:30am-3:30pm

On the same day as the first-year new student orientation, John Jay offers an optional Parent & Family Orientation for ONE family member per new student (space is limited). If your family member would like to participate, please make sure that YOU (the new student) register your family member in the student NSO registration process.

Please note that new students and their family members will be separated for the majority of the day, but after both orientations finish, you all will be reunited in the afternoon.

You will get an email with the New Student Portal. In this portal, you will find instructions for accessing your account, using your John Jay email, for the Online Orientation Portal along with the New Student Orientation Session registration links.  Other than the portal, all of the sessions will be in person.

Definitely! In the portal, there is a Q&A feature and you will be able to ask questions during the in person NSO sessoins.

No, these sessions are not registration. Please follow the steps in your admitted student portal to complete all enrollments steps.

Each new student attends only ONE in-person new student orientation session.
