About Us
About Us
The Office of Digital Learning (formerly the Department of Online Education & Support) partners with campus educators - including faculty, students and staff - to inspire, enrich and innovate John Jay’s collective teaching and learning community. In doing so, our approach is
Student-Centered: Positioning learners at the core of effective course design
Evidence-Based: Identifying and disseminating effective teaching strategies supported by research
Equitable & Inclusive: Welcoming and advocating for diverse perspectives and ensuring experiences are accessible to all students
Collaborative: Working closely with faculty, students and staff to support their professional development as educators
Iterative: Providing opportunities for faculty, students and staff to practice, refine and expand their teaching skills through workshops, one-on-one consultations and other professional development opportunities
John Jay online courses are designed to make learning more accessible while delivering the same academically rigorous content in a flexible and convenient format. Online Delivery and NC-SARA
John Jay College is able to deliver its online programs in states outside New York through the State Authorization Reciprocity Agreement (SARA) process. SARA is a voluntary agreement among its member states and U.S. territories that establishes one set of national standards and regulations for offering postsecondary distance education courses and programs. This agreement is administered by four regional educational compacts and overseen by NC-SARA. New York is a member of SARA and John Jay College is an approved SARA institution. We adhere to the established SARA standards for offering online education among member states, districts and territories.
SARA benefits for online students:
- Expands access to educational offerings
- Enhances overall quality of distance education
- Leads to better resolution of complaints from students in SARA states.
Resources for Online Student Complaint Procedures
NC-SARA's complaint policies do not cover issues related to grades or student conduct violations. If you have concerns about grades or student conduct, follow the campus grievance procedures. Students who wish to challenge a decision made by the institution can do so by appealing to the SARA State Portal Entity in New York State. Students have two years from the date of the incident related to their complaint to submit their appeal.
