CUNYWork Implementation

CUNY is embracing a future-focused approach to modernize its systems and better serve its diverse workforce. As outlined in the CUNY Lifting NY Strategic Roadmap, the University is reimagining how it operates, moving away from outdated, fragmented processes toward more efficient, scalable and unified solutions. 

CUNYWork is a key part of this transformation. It will: 

  • Consolidate over 200 shadow systems and manual processes into one cloud-based, unified platform 
  • Improve data accuracy, accessibility, and security across HR and Finance functions 
  • Empower staff with modern tools that support collaboration and efficiency 
  • Facilitate scalability to meet future growth and evolving needs 
  • Connect all 26 campuses and the Central Office, reducing duplication and enhancing coordination 
  • Optimize costs and resource allocation, enabling smarter use of limited resources 

This transition reflects CUNY’s commitment to enterprise-wide modernization—creating a more agile, responsive and sustainable system. 

Launching in late 2027 across all 26 campuses and the Central Office, Workday will replace the HR and Finance functions of CUNYfirst, such as payroll, time and leave, procurement, budgeting, and financial reporting. Additionally, all CUNY employees will use Workday for employee self-service functions. This transformation will help CUNY work smarter and more efficiently through a user-friendly interface, faster processes, real-time data, and improved collaboration.

A transition of this scale requires ongoing communication and support. Updates, training materials and detailed process guides will be shared as we progress through implementation.
