Registration Requirements for PSY 780 within the FMHC Program
In order to receive permission to register for PSY 780, students must meet the following criteria:
- Completion of course prerequisites: PSY 745, Clinical Instruction (PSY 758), PSY 760, and PSY 761. Students should only apply after completion of these classes.
- No more than two incompletes in any course at the time of commencing 780. Incompletes should not be in any of the required prerequisite courses listed above.
- Demonstration of good moral character and professional conduct. Students with a record of academic dishonesty (e.g., cheating, plagiarism) or unprofessional conduct may be denied permission to commence clinical work.
- Director approval. The Program Director evaluates overall readiness for clinical placement and retains discretion to deny, delay, place the student on probation or place conditions on externship based on the student’s academic standing, professional track record, or any other factors the Director deems relevant to clinical readiness.
- Externship termination. If a student is let go or terminated from an externship, it is up to the Program Director’s discretion to decide whether the hours completed at that site count towards the externship requirement. Being let go from an externship may result in a student being unable to complete the program. Director approval as described above may also apply.
- Registration for PSY 781. In order to register for PSY 781, students must be nearing completion of the requirements for PSY 780 and demonstrate they are in good standing in their externship placement. This requires a minimum of 100 hours being completed andsubmission of an update letter showing successful progress.
