I’m a 24-year-old from New York with Guyanese heritage, currently studying forensic mental health counseling. My goal is to support others by addressing mental health challenges both within the justice system and the wider community.
My name is Sofia and I am in the FMHC program. I am also working towards an Advanced Certificate in Victimology Studies. Currently I work as an extern at the Special Treatment Unit (STU) and my current focus is sex offender treatment. I am highly interested in the criminal career patterns of sex offenders and the idea of deviant sexual arousal. After graduation my goal is to earn my LPC and work in a forensic setting!
My name is Gianna Pascale, from Staten Island, and a second-year student in the Forensic Mental Health Counseling program. I’m passionate about forensic evaluation and risk assessment. I’m a mental health extern with NYC Health + Hospitals on Rikers Island, managing a caseload and collaborating to provide optimal care to those within the legal system. Aspiring to earn a PsyD, I aim to bridge corrections and law to support offenders with severe mental illness.
My name is Lucero Garcia, and I am a first-generation college student in the Forensic Mental Health Counseling (FMHC) program. I am interested in working with sex offenders, conducting trauma-informed therapy, and forensic interviewing. My goal is to support individuals through compassionate care and contribute to justice and rehabilitation.
My name is Lisa, and I am a graduate student in the Forensic Mental Health Counseling Program at John Jay. In 2023, I proudly earned my bachelor’s degree in Forensic Psychology from John Jay as well! As a first-generation college student, navigating higher education initially felt overwhelming, but my time at John Jay has been transformative. The supportive community and resources have empowered me to discover my true passion: pursuing my LMHC and advocating for victims in need. I am deeply committed to making a positive impact in the lives of others, and I’m grateful to John Jay for helping me turn my aspirations into achievable goals.
I'm an international student from India, recently graduating with my MA in FMHC, with an advanced certification in victimology studies. My focus of studies is more on working with victims of sexual assault and DV/IPV, especially those from marginalized populations.
