ASAP Selection Criteria

The selection criteria for each cohort is listed below.

First-Time Freshman

Be an incoming new freshman student
The first semester of enrollment at John Jay must be fall 2026
Be a regular admit and not admitted to SEEK.
Earned less than 21 credits (AP, College Now, etc.) prior to the first semester at John Jay College
Select an ASAP-eligible major. Click here to see a list of all ASAP-eligible majors.
Students cannot participate in both ASAP and another JJAY special program (SEEK, Honors Scholars, APPLE Corps, Early Start, Adelante, etc.).
Complete and submit the application for the General First-Time Freshman class to be placed on a wait list. Recruitment has ended for Fall 2026.

Be a first-time CUNY transfer student from the CUNY Justice Academy
Earned an associate's degree by spring 2026
Earned less than 90 credits prior to the first semester at John Jay College
The first semester of enrollment at John Jay must be fall 2026 (continuing/returning transfers are not eligible)
Completed prerequisite coursework at prior CUNY community college for the intended ASAP-eligible major at John Jay
Select an ASAP-eligible major. Click here to see a list of all ASAP-eligible majors.
Not enrolled in the CJBS online program
Students cannot participate in both ASAP and another JJAY special program (SEEK, APPLE Corps, etc.).
Be willing to enroll in an in-person transfer seminar course and attend in-person workshops, advising appointments throughout the fall 2026 semester
Be willing to attend an in-person event each summer (typically hosted on a single day, one week before the semester begins)

Complete all CUNY admissions requirements. To apply to CUNY visit: www.cuny.edu/admissions
Be a New York State resident and/or eligible for in-state tuition.
Agree to enroll in at least 15 credits (5 courses) each semester.
Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and the New York State Tuition Assistance Program (TAP) application.*
Agree to adhere to all ASAP Program requirements.

*All students (except those who are unable to apply due to immigration status) must complete both FAFSA and TAP applications. We encourage those who do not meet eligibility requirements for federal and state aid to check eligibility and apply for funds through the New York State Dream Act.
