The SASP Peer Success Coach Program is a paid, on-campus job for students with a genuine desire to help others and give back to the John Jay community. It is also considered an Experiential Learning Opportunity because Peer Success Coaches gain practical experience while studying theories and skills from the fields of counseling and human services. Ultimately, we welcome applicants from any and all majors and career interests!
As an Experiential Learning Opportunity (ELO), the Peer Success Coach Program is open to all students, regardless of immigration status. Learn about fellowship opportunities through the Immigrant Student Success Center (ImSSC).
- At the start of every semester, PSCs are assigned to one or two First Year or Transfer Seminars.
- In the classroom, Peer Success Coaches partner with faculty to support class activities, make announcements, and help students.
- Outside the classroom, Peer Success Coaches have office hours in L2.75NB where they facilitate 1:1 coaching sessions for students, conduct outreach to students at key points in the semester, and participate in team meetings and trainings.

- Earn credits towards select majors, minors, and certificates (see training requirements)
- Earn $19.12/hour as a student employee
- Annual Training (3-4 days in early August)
- Fall: CHS 310 Advanced Interpersonal Counseling Skills
- Spring: CSL 311 Field Education in College Community Outreach
- Weekly meetings for professional development and supervision
- Be enrolled as an undergraduate student at John Jay
- Maintain a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA
- Work at least 10 hours per week between 8:00am and 5:30pm
- Support one to two First Year and Transfer Seminars, including weekly class visits
- Conduct outreach and coaching for 25 to 75 students
- Attend all required trainings and staff meetings
- Enroll in the mandatory fall and spring training courses (new Peer Success Coaches only)
- Applications for the fall 2026 cohort are currently closed. The digital application for the fall 2027 cohort will be posted in December 2026.
- All applicants must attend one mandatory information session prior to submitting their application.
- All applications must include a reference from a John Jay faculty or staff member.
- Based on the application and references, a small number of candidates will be invited to one or two interviews.
- Newly selected Peer Success Coaches complete their initial training during the first week of August, after which they begin working through the end of the fall term.
