About us: The 9/11 Memorial & Museum is the country’s principal institution concerned with exploring 9/11, documenting its impact, and examining its continuing significance. Honoring those who were killed in the 2001 and 1993 attacks is at the heart of our mission.

Development Intern

  • Assist the Major & Institutional Giving and Corporate Giving teams with department-wide initiatives and day-to-day administrative tasks, including prospect research, donor acknowledgement, and database management
  • Intern will gain firsthand experience in donor, grant, and prospect research tracking
  • Working hours for this role are Monday through Friday, 9:00AM - 5:00PM

Government & Community Affairs Intern

  • Communicate with key 9/11 Community stakeholders and conduct research to support departmental projects and initiatives
  • Assist with supporting the Government & Community Affairs team's legislative and public affairs efforts
  • Support the team with event and on-site events, including high-level VIP visits by government officials and other distinguished guests
  • Working hours for this role are Monday through Friday, 9:00AM - 5:00PM

Institutional Advancement Intern

  • Assist Institutional Advancement department to leverage increased engagement and visibility surrounding the 25th Anniversary of 9/11
  • Engage with visitors on 9/11 Memorial to gather tribute submissions to the Memorial & Museum's online memorialization page, the Blue Sky Remembrance Wall
  • Assist with administrative maintenance and updating of the Blue Sky Remembrance Wall, including monitoring, reporting and entering constituent responses
  • Working hours for this role are Monday through Friday, 9:00AM - 5:00PM

Volunteer and Operations Intern

  • Provide direct support to the Director of Volunteer and Intern Operations
  • Utilize database to keep volunteer information updated
  • Assist in planning and facilitating volunteer appreciation events
  • Working hours for this role are Monday through Friday 9:00am – 5:00pm

Brooklyn Justice Initiatives

About us: Operating out of Brooklyn Criminal Court on Schermerhorn Street, Brooklyn Justice Initiatives (BJI) is staffed by a team of social workers, case managers, and court liaisons. By providing meaningful early diversion, pretrial supervised release, and post-conviction sentencing options, Brooklyn Justice Initiatives seeks to use an arrest as a window of opportunity to change the direction of an individual’s life and avoid unnecessary incarceration. 

Modality: In-person, 120 Schermerhorn St, Brooklyn, NY 11201

Role: 

  • Attend and table at community events with other Community Engagement Team members (weather permitting!)
  • Conduct phone outreach to participants who have finished the program to inform them of the BJI exit survey
  • Provide support to the Housing Specialist and Education & Employment during on-site workshops
  • Add to our list of community resources and organizations by utilizing prior knowledge or conducting research to address key participant needs
  • Occasionally shadow with BJI case managers and court operations team members to learn about the process that participants go through after joining BJI programming 

Ideal Candidate: Must be comfortable working with a diverse group of clients; interest in the justice system, social work, and/or related fields preferred but not required. 

Skills developed in this role: Resource facilitation, public speaking, outreach and community engagement

Canary Impact

About us: The Canary Impact is dedicated to funding decarceration organizations & initiatives that are led and/or meaningfully informed by leaders who are or have been directly impacted by the legal system. Our primary focus is to build the capacity and leadership of people who have been impacted by the legal system by providing direct funding to them, so that they can realize their own vision for decarceration to build self and collective power.

Modality: Hybrid: Some hours may be completed remotely, some in-person hours may be required: 500 7th Avenue, 8th Floor New York, NY 10018

Role:

  • Attend meetings and take meeting minutes
  • Research current trends in philanthropy
  • Coordinate events

Encore Community Services

About us: The mission of Encore Community Services is to provide care and service to the elderly of the Clinton/Times Square/Midtown communities, and to any elderly person who comes to us; to assist those who are vulnerable and frail, poor and homeless, homebound and lonely, frequently desperate, most often ignored; to help them with their daily needs that they might live as independently as possible, with dignity and decency, in a non-institutional manner, in a safe and caring environment.

Role: 

  • Assist with administrative function of the center programming team
  • Assist team with special projects and initiatives that are agency priorities
  • Interact with staff, visitors and clients in a responsible and courteous manner

GallopNYC

About us: GallopNYC uses therapeutic horsemanship to help riders in NYC with disabilities walk, talk and learn, inspiring them to live their lives as fully, independently and productively as possible. We operate at three locations around the city. 

Modality: In-person at 80-98 Linden Blvd, Howard Beach, NY 11414

Role: 

  • Support therapeutic lessons by assisting riders
  • Communicate with and lead-walk horses
  • Complete various barns tasks

Ideal candidate: Candidate must be able to complete shifts between Tuesday-Sunday, with weekends preferred. Candidates must be able to walk and jog for short intervals, and be able to lift 25 pounds. This position will involve getting dirty.

LGBTQ+ Resource Center @John Jay College 

About us: The LGBTQ+ Resource Center at John Jay College fosters an inclusive and affirming campus environment through educational programs, resources, advocacy, and student support. The Center works to promote belonging, leadership, and the success of LGBTQ+ students and allies.

Role: 

  • Conduct student needs assessments 
  • Assist with outreach  
  • Research and update LGBTQ+ resources

Skills developed in this role: Outreach, reception and client intake, documenting and organizing data

Ideal Candidate: This placement is ideal for students interested in public service, social justice, research, and student engagement. Students should be comfortable interacting with diverse populations, take initiative, and be excited to contribute to projects that directly support LGBTQ+ student success and campus inclusion. 

The Bronx Health Link, Inc.

About us: The Bronx Health Link amplifies the voices of Bronx residents and community-based organizations and equips them with the tools to achieve health equity. 

Modality: In-person at 851 Grand Concourse, Bronx, NY 10451

Role: 

  • Support administrative and clerical duties
  • Attend community events to conduct outreach
  • Answer calls and walk-ins as needed

Ideal candidate: must have availability to complete a shift between the hours of 9am-5pm, Tues-Thurs.

The United Jewish Council of the East Side (UJCES)

About us: UJCES is a non-profit organization supporting the Lower East Side and wider NYC community through human services and community development programs.

Modality: In-person at multiple locations in the Lower East Side

Roles: 

  • NORC Program Greeter Volunteers assist at a NORC (Naturally Occurring Retirement Community) program.
  • NORC Volunteers proactively greet visitors at a community center, provide information about programs and services, assist with sign-in and registration for programs, and answer visitor questions.
  • Food Pantry Assistance Volunteers support the team with two food pantries, both on-site and occasionally on local walking deliveries to clients.
  • Food Pantry Assistance Volunteers help organize, pack, deliver, and hand out food pantry orders.

Ideal candidate must be comfortable interacting with people of all ages and have strong organizational skills.

About us: UnLocal, Inc. is a community-centered non-profit organization that provides direct immigration legal representation and community education to New York City’s immigrant communities.
