Maia Ueoka Lynch (she/her) is a multimedia artist and art educator, with a background in film and video, nonviolent education, permaculture, and design. She worked as a commercial director in Bogota, Colombia and Tokyo, Japan, before becoming immersed in the work with children and their mothers fleeing domestic violence, rape, trafficking and slavery at an AAPI shelter in Los Angeles. Personal and family histories shape her work, drawing from experiences of migration, sacrifice, and survival across different landscapes.
Lynch presented a solo exhibition at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston in 2017, participated in various group exhibitions, and has a permanent sculptural installation in Okayama, Japan. She was nominated for the Dedalus Award in Painting, awarded the Für Bildende Künste fellowship in Hamburg, Germany, the Dana Pond Award, Honorable Mention in painting, and the 2016 SMFA Alumni Traveling Fellowship. She has collaborated as a designer and senior producer for American artist and architect, Maya Lin and the late documentary photographer, Melissa Shook. Lynch has been featured in Asia Art Pacific, Art News, and New American Paintings’ MFA Annual.
