For the purposes of determining tuition charges, a student is considered a NYS resident if they have maintained domicile in NYS for a period of at least 12 consecutive months immediately preceding the first day of classes for the semester which the residency determination is made. Residence in a dormitory, hotel, or other temporary housing facility does not qualify for in-state residency.
The Office of Admissions is responsible for coding all incoming students’ residency status: Residency & In-State Tuition. If you are a continuing student (sophomore, junior or senior level) and need to update your residency, please email the JJC Residency Unit at residency@jjay.cuny.edu.
- Undergraduate students who reside in the State of New York and are enrolled in 12-credits or more are eligible for a standardized tuition rate. This means the student will pay a flat rate for registration between 12-18 credits.
- Undergraduate students who reside in the State of New York and are enrolled in 11-credits or less are eligible for an in-state, per credit rate of tuition.
The CUNY Baccalaureate/Master’s Degree Program provides academically advanced students the opportunity to simultaneously pursue the Baccalaureate and Master’s degrees. It is available at our campus to students studying Criminal Justice, Forensic Psychology & Public Administration: BA/MA Degree Program. These programs allow exceptional students the opportunity to complete the two degrees in a five-year time period. In addition to the recognition associated with an advanced academic program and the potential for accelerated degree acquisition, the CUNY BA/MA Program has a built-in scholarship incentive:
- CUNY BA/MA students are charged the undergraduate tuition rate for graduate courses until they reach 120-credits. Once the 120-credits have been met, students are then charged at the applicable graduate tuition rate–even if taking an undergraduate course.
The Accelerated Dual Admission Program (ADAP) is an accelerated program, intended for students to attend full-time. This program is designed to allow students to earn a Baccalaureate degree on the way to earning a Master’s degree. The Baccalaureate degree is conferred at least one semester before the Master's degree. Graduate-level courses taken towards the end of the Bachelor's portion of the program substitute for higher-level undergraduate courses while also fulfilling Master program's requirements.
- ADAP students are charged the undergraduate tuition rate until they complete 120-credits and earn their Bachelor’s degree. Students are then considered graduate students and the tuition is charged at the applicable graduate tuition rate.
