Join a timely convening of city and civic leaders examining the efforts needed to create safety and justice in New York City.
As the City works to close Rikers Island and transition to a smaller, borough-based jail system, emerging developments and momentum are bringing renewed attention to how that commitment moves forward. This convening brings together voices shaping that path to share insights, confront challenges, and explore the decisions and developments that will chart what comes next.
The program includes opening remarks from John Jay College President Karol V. Mason; updates from the Mayor's Office on the latest developments and status of efforts to close Rikers; and interactive conversations among journalists, advocates, and civic leaders. The day will close with a lunch reception.
