BS/MS in Forensic Science

What are the goals of this program?

The BS/MS provides Forensic Science Majors with a faster path to a graduate degree. Instead of six-plus years of study, BS/MS students can complete both degrees in five years. 

A graduate degree in Forensic Science enhances our students’ qualifications and prepares them for successful careers in physical evidence testing, DNA analysis, toxicology, and related fields within forensic science.

The field of forensic science benefits from a workforce with advanced scientific knowledge, critical reasoning abilities, and excellent technical skills.

The accelerated degree program builds on the Forensic Science major, providing comprehensive instruction in specialized forensic disciplines, including Forensic Molecular Biology, Toxicology, and Criminalistics.  

Students are eligible for the program if:

  • They are enrolled in the Forensic Science major at John Jay College.
  • They have a math and science GPA and an overall GPA of 3.0 or above.
  • They are still at the freshman or sophomore level.    
  • They have not started to take Instrumental Analysis or any of the FOS Specialization Track classes. 

The application process is similar to that of a graduate school and requires a personal statement and two letters of recommendation

Declaration of interest

Interested John Jay Forensic Science students should consult with Dr. Marta Concheiro-Guisan (mconcheiro-guisan@jjay.cuny.edu).  

Application cycle

Students should apply in the spring of their second year (after completing 60 credits or less). If accepted, students will be notified about "conditional acceptance" and advised to enroll in a modified undergraduate course flow for the first and second semesters of their third year.
