NYU Foreign Language Proficiency Exams
NYU Foreign Language (12-point) Proficiency Exams
Grounded in the guidelines established by the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL), NYU offers proficiency exams for more than 30 languages.
Students who have modern language competency can also satisfy the Gen Ed Foreign Language Requirement by taking a placement exam in the college’s Modern Language Center.
The 12-point exam covers 101-201 credit equivalence. The level of language credit awarded depends on the exam score. These credits can satisfy John Jay’s Gen Ed foreign language requirement. Students can also explore the 16-point exam.
See more about the exams, the scoring chart, and undergraduate benchmarks. Cost: approximately $350-$550.
