RE:  Passing of Vincent Maiorino, Retired Lecturer and Head Rifle Coach

It is with great sadness that I share the news that Vincent (Vince) Maiorino, retired Lecturer in the Department of Health & Physical Education and former Head Coach of the John Jay College Rifle Team, passed away on Sunday, June 21, 2026.

Vince began his career at John Jay College in the fall of 1998 as an adjunct faculty member in the Department of Physical Education and Athletics, where he developed and taught the Air Pistol Shooting course. In 2002, he accepted a full-time Lecturer position at the College coupled with his appointment as Head Coach of the Rifle Team.

Over the course of his distinguished career, Vince developed and taught the popular Development of Weapons course and, in 2006, published “A Condensed History of Weapons for the Individual”, which became the definitive text for the course. He continued to serve the College with dedication in both his teaching and coaching roles until his retirement in 2018.

In addition to his contributions as a coach, Vince devoted many years to educating and mentoring students as a member of the Physical Education faculty. Through his teaching, leadership, and commitment to student success, he positively impacted countless students and student-athletes throughout his career. In recognition of his outstanding service and contributions to the athletics program, he was inducted into the John Jay Athletics Hall of Fame in 2019.

Our thoughts are with Vince's family, friends, former colleagues, and the many students and athletes whose lives he touched. As we mourn his passing, let us also celebrate his remarkable life, his dedicated service to John Jay College, and the lasting legacy he leaves behind.
