America's moment for public safety transformation is now, and John Jay College of Criminal Justice is forging a path for this critical change through the Future of Public Safety Initiative.

As a college of criminal justice that educates “fierce advocates for justice,” John Jay is in a unique position to convene conversations and reimagine solutions related to justice and safety.

In 2020, amid the powerful pleas for profound action on policing and public safety, John Jay College partnered with the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives (NOBLE), to convene elected officials, law enforcement leaders, experts and researchers in criminal justice, health and community-based anti-violence work and activists from across disciplines for a “dialogue across difference” to define the future of public safety. The resulting Future of Public Safety series and public report highlighted a broad consensus that government and communities across the country need to rethink and reshape public safety functions to support healthy, safe and just communities.

In Fall 2021, to support communities in implementing the public safety transformations called for in the Future of Public Safety series and report, John Jay College launched the Future of Public Safety Initiative.
