Personnel
Personnel
CUNY employees, RF CUNY employees, and independent contractors are classified differently and follow distinct rules. CUNY employees are paid directly through the college payroll and must follow CUNY HR and union contract policies. RF CUNY employees are hired and paid through the Research Foundation, which has its own payroll, benefits, and timekeeping requirements. Independent contractors, by contrast, are not employees at all; they provide services under a contract and are paid upon submission of invoices, in compliance with procurement and tax regulations. Understanding these distinctions is important to ensure proper hiring, payment, and compliance with sponsor and institutional policies.
Release time and summary salary
Release time refers to a portion of a faculty member’s workload being funded by the grant to allow time for project activities, while summer salary provides compensation for work on the project during the summer months. Both require prior approval and must comply with institutional and sponsor guidelines.
Time and leave
All project personnel must accurately record time worked and report leave in accordance with RF policies. Timesheets and leave requests are typically submitted through the RF’s online system to ensure compliance with payroll and audit requirements.
