Bio

Javier Moreno-Rivero is an Assistant Professor at John Jay College of Criminal Justice, CUNY. He earned his Ph.D. from the University of Cambridge in 2023, where he taught linguistics, translation and Spanish. His expertise spans applied and sociolinguistics, translation studies, law and language, sociology, and political science. Javier has held academic positions in institutions in the United Kingdom (including Heriot-Watt University, the University of Sheffield, University of Westminster, Open University and the University of Cambridge) and the United States (first at UCLA and currently at CUNY). He has been an invited speaker at international conferences and symposia at London, Cambridge, UNAM in Mexico, McGill, MIT, Princeton, Sevilla and Geneva, among others. Javier actively contributes to the academic community by serving on the Editorial Board of The International Journal for the Semiotics of Law, published by Springer, and the Journal of the Spanish Association of Linguistics, and he is an Elected Member of the Romance Linguistics Forum of the Modern Language Association. Since 2017, Javier has supervised over 50 postgraduate students in applied linguistics and translation studies in universities across Spain and the UK.
