Bio

I was pleased to join John Jay College of Criminal Justice in 2001 as their first distance professor. I have joyfully completed more than 80 online and traditional courses of instruction since that time and have experienced a consistent and progresssive enhancement of John Jay's methodology and accomplishment. I consider this an opportunity to "give back."

My wife and I enjoy our ten grand children at every opportunity and continue our international travel when we can. Our travels have included China, Czech, Germany, Italy, France, South Africa, Zimbabwe, United Kingdom, Ireland, Guatemala, Netherlands, Austria, Switzerland and the U.S.of A. I am pleased to talk about these topics and exchange my life, fire and public safety experiences with you at any time.

Residing in Maryland, I am currently the senior consultant for John M. Best & Associates completing more than 45 public safety agency analyses and strategic plans nationwide, and an adjunct professor for John Jay College of Criminal Justice (CUNY) in their graduate and undergraduate Protection Management, Security, Fire and Emergency Management Programs. I am a life member of the Silver Spring [MD] Volunteer Fire Department and have served as Fire Chief and Manager of Reedy Creek Emergency Services protecting Walt Disney World, Florida and Deputy Fire/Rescue Chief for Montgomery County, MD Fire Rescue Service. I was proud to received a Presidential appointment to the "America Burning - Recommissioned; America at Risk" Commission and three fire rescue Governor's Citations from the State of Maryland. I have served on the National Fire Protection Association, Fire Service Training Committee, as a member of the International Association of Fire Chiefs, the Florida Fire Chiefs' Association, the Internationalof Fire Service Instructors Association and as a Peer Reviewer for FEMA's Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program [AFG]. I am a co-author of Fire Engineering's Handbook for Firefighter I and II. I earned my Doctoral Degree in Education Leadership from the American College of Education, my Master of Arts degree from the Universtiy of Phoenix in Organizational Management, Bachelor's degree from Columbia Union College in Business Administration and Associate's degree from Montgomery College in Fire Science. I graduated from the National Fire Academy's "Executive Development Program" and the Walt Disney Institute's "Leadership Pathways to Excellence." As a shameless plug I was recently named a "Top Online Professor" for New England by www.firescience.org
