John Jay #9 Nationwide for Best Return on Investment
John Jay College is #9 on Forbes.com list of the top 25 colleges and universities nationally that offer students the best return on their investment—high earnings potential for a relatively low price.
The ranking reflects John Jay’s affordability – 85% of its students graduate with $0 student debt – and its stellar record of student success. The majority of alums go on to careers in government and nonprofit organizations and 50% work in public service. Half of John Jay’s students are the first in their family to attend college, 75% attended New York City public schools and about ⅔ identify as Hispanic or Black.
To determine which colleges offer the best return on investment, Forbes examined each school’s price-to-earnings premium, a calculation by the think tank Third Way that shows the number of years it takes graduates to recoup the net cost of their education. In addition, they looked at the schools’ debt-to-percent-borrowed index, a figure that Forbes created for its top 500 colleges list, which reflects the percentage of students who take on debt to attend a school – 85% of John Jay students graduate with $0 student debt. The schools that scored highly on both these metrics made the top 25 list. Click here for more information on Forbes’s methodology.
