For Faculty

Faculty play a critical role in shaping John Jay students’ career plans. Below are services that our Office can provide to you as a faculty member.

The Center works with all students – undergraduate and graduate – to help them find and secure internship opportunities. We would be happy to visit your class and give a presentation to your students on how to take advantage of internship opportunities. We also host weekly sessions in our office to introduce them to internships and to register them into academic internship courses. If you are interested in any of these services, please email kacrawford@jjay.cuny.edu.

If you anticipate canceling a class, contact the Center. Based on availability, a staff member could visit your class and deliver career-related lectures or workshops. Our staff is happy to work with you to make the information related to your course material. To request a visit, please click below on "Presentation Request Form" and submit a completed Form. You can choose a topic from the following list of workshops:

  • Basic career planning
  • Resume & cover letter writing
  • Internet career tools
  • Preparation for career fairs
  • Developing a career plan
  • Networking
  • Professional etiquette
  • Interviewing
  • Internships
  • Applying for graduate school

A complete calendar of our events can be found online at https://jjay-cuny-csm.symplicity.com/calendar. If there is an employer information session, career fair, workshop, or other program you would like to bring your students to, please reach out and let us know.  Some faculty have even created worksheets for their students and made our events part of their course syllabus. Our staff would be happy to work with you on this type of collaboration.

We are often asked by employers for the opportunity to speak in front of classes of students, to bridge industries and academic discussions. If you would welcome a visit from an employer, please email Kristina Simonsen, ksimonsen@jjay.cuny.edu or calling her at (212) 237-8731.

We know that the John Jay faculty are connected in a multiplicity of ways to various industries and organizations.  If you become aware of an internship or job opportunity that would benefit our students, please share it with us by forwarding the posting to Kristina Simonsen at ksimonsen@jjay.cuny.edu.
