Compliance at John Jay
Overview:
Compliance at John Jay is about more than following rules — it’s about protecting our community, upholding our values, and ensuring the College operates with integrity and accountability.
The Compliance Division of the Office of Legal Counsel, Inclusion, & Compliance supports departments and individuals in meeting legal, regulatory, and institutional obligations. We provide guidance, oversight, and training to reduce risk, prevent violations, and strengthen ethical practices across the College.
Our Role:
We coordinate the College’s compliance with:
- Federal, state, and local laws and regulations
- CUNY-wide policies and procedures
- Accreditation standards
- Contractual and grant-related obligations
- Internal College policies, codes, and ethical requirements
We also help departments assess risk, implement controls, and stay informed about updates in legal and regulatory frameworks that affect higher education.
Coordinating the Comprehensive Ethics Training Course (CETC) for employees and tracking completion in accordance with state law.
Managing the semesterly submission and review of CUNY-required Multiple Position Reports for full-time faculty.
The City University of New York is committed to transparency and public access to information under New York State’s Freedom of Information Law (FOIL). Members of the public may request access to many government records, including those maintained by John Jay College of Criminal Justice.
FOIL requests must be submitted in writing to CUNY’s Records Access Officer. Please be as specific as possible when describing the records you are seeking. Requests may be submitted online through CUNY’s FOIL portal.
For additional information about FOIL, including your rights under the law, visit the New York State Committee on Open Government website.
Providing guidance on disclosures and restrictions under Public Officers Law §§ 73 and 74, as well as campus and CUNY policies.
