9-8-25: Town Hall Meeting – September 17th
The first Town Hall of the Fall semester will be both in-person and over Zoom and will be held on Wednesday, September 17th from 1:40 – 2:55 p.m. Join us in person in L.61 of the New Building or by Zoom with the details below. We look forward to sharing news on the latest projects and programs and hearing your important ideas and comments.
The Town Hall will be led by President Karol Mason, Student Council President Jamella Richmond, and Faculty Senate President Karen Kaplowitz. The moderator will be Professor Elton Beckett.

Here’s everything you need to know about how to prepare, how to join, and how to participate.
- How to Prepare for Zoom
You will need a Zoom account linked to your John Jay email in order to join the Town Hall. To claim your Zoom account and link your John Jay email, please register for Zoom using your John Jay email and password at https://jjay-cuny.zoom.us.
- How to Join
Visit the direct link to enter the Town Hall at:

Once the meeting is ready to begin, a host will bring you in from the Waiting Room. All microphones will be muted except the three Town Hall hosts and moderator, unless you are called on to ask a question.
TROUBLESHOOTING: If you have more than one Zoom account, and your account does not default to your John Jay account, you will need to log in via the “Sign in With SSO” option. The organization domain you will need to enter is “jjay-cuny”. Then continue with your John Jay username and password.
- How to Participate
After opening statements, the question and answer part of the Town Hall will begin. There are multiple ways to ask a question.
- Submit an Email Question Before Town Hall: To submit a question by email you can send a message to: Townhall@jjay.cuny.edu. After the meeting has begun, emails will no longer be accepted.
- Ask a Live Question During Town Hall: To ask your question live during the Town Hall, follow these steps:
- In-Person: Get on line to the microphone dedicated to questions.
- Over Zoom: Press the “Reactions” button and then the “Raise Hand” button. When you click that button, a hand will appear next to your name.
- Wait for the moderator to call on you. A host will then unmute your microphone.
- If you do not want to be on camera, you do not have to turn it on, but you must activate your microphone to be heard.
- You will have two minutes to speak.
- When you are done asking your question your microphone will be muted again.
- Click the Q&A tab and type in your question on the Zoom app.
