Join John Jay College of Criminal Justice Future of Public Safety Initiative and the AI and Justice Consortium for the final session of their three-part Demystifying AI series. This session examines how artificial intelligence is being deployed within correctional and reentry systems, and what the possible implications are for incarcerated individuals, people who have previously been detained, corrections professionals and public safety outcomes.
The panel brings together perspectives from corrections leadership, reentry services, and policy research to explore critical questions: How are AI tools being used in prisons and jails? What decisions are being automated or augmented by these technologies? How do these systems impact pathways to successful reentry and employment? And what safeguards exist—or should exist—to ensure fairness, transparency, and accountability?
Both the opportunities and risks of AI in some of the most consequential applications in the criminal legal system will be discussed.
