Jeffrey Deskovic, Esq., M.A., is an internationally recognized wrongful conviction expert and founder of The Jeffrey Deskovic Foundation for Justice, which has freed 15 wrongfully convicted people and helped pass nine laws. He is a member of the It Could Happen to You advisory board, serves on the global advisory council of Restorative Justice International and is the co-owner of Recharge Beyond the Bars Re-Entry Game, which facilitates formerly incarcerated people reconnecting with family and friends.
Jeff served 16 years in prison in NY for murder and rape prior to being exonerated by DNA. Jeff obtained an MA from John Jay, won its Distinguished Alumni Award in 2018 and is listed in 50 at 50, a book honoring top fifty students in the school's fifty-year history. Jeff is the subject of two documentaries by Jia Rizvi: Conviction and Sixteen Years.
Jia Rizvi is an award-winning filmmaker, podcaster and writer who tells powerful stories of wrongful convictions. Her debut documentary, Conviction, screened at 17 festivals worldwide and won six awards – including Best Picture and Best Cinematography – before premiering on Amazon Prime. She is currently in the distribution process for her feature film Sixteen Years, which continues the exploration of Jeffrey Deskovic’s wrongful conviction and fight for justice. Jia co-hosts the true crime podcast Speaking of Crime, has authored 300+ articles for Forbes and hosted episodes of the Emmy Award–winning show The List.
