Rikers Island & Mental Health: Data, Lived Experience & Diversion Strategies
As New York City enters a new year under promising new leadership, the mandate to close Rikers Island remains unchanged. Join John Jay's Data Collaborative for Justice and the Katal Center for Equity, Health & Justice for a webinar exploring findings from their joint report: Rikers Island and Mental Health: Pathways Toward Community-Based Diversion and Jail Population Reduction.
To help keep New York City on track, the session will bring together data, lived experience and policy discussion to explore strategies capable of advancing decarceration by treating many more people with mental health needs in the community in lieu of Rikers.
The session will include a live Q&A and attendees are encouraged to review the report & submit questions via the registration link.
