A UNGA 80 Side Event hosted by the Master of Arts Degree Program in International Crime and Justice at John Jay College of Criminal Justice, in partnership with the Global Initiative Against Transnational Organized Crime
A light dinner will be served.
Transnational organized crime is posing an increasingly serious threat to democracy, sovereignty, as well as international peace and security. UN Member States, as well as the UN as an institution, are increasingly under pressure to cope with this challenge. In this event during the UNGA high-level week, speakers will address the new threats posed by transnational organized crime, explore phenomena such as cyber-related organized crimes and the use of the Darknet and environmental crimes. They will also discuss and analyze emerging policy responses and assess the current range of multilateral responses, including the effectiveness of the UN (Palermo) Convention Against Transnational Organized Crime, which this year celebrates its 25th anniversary.
