Tyron Pope, Ed.D., is a scholar-practitioner whose research focuses on the intersections of race, education, and justice within the Africana experience. His work examines systemic inequality, the school-to-prison pipeline, and the role of restorative justice in addressing the educational and social needs of marginalized communities. His dissertation, The Re-imagination of the School Safety Concept, explored school leaders’ perceptions following the removal of school safety personnel from public schools. Dr. Pope’s current research investigates the impact of trauma, dyslexia, and reading deficiencies on incarceration outcomes, particularly among youth of color—a subject he presented on at the 79th Corrections Education Association Conference in 2025. He is also engaged in projects exploring how artificial intelligence can support equitable access to rehabilitation and reentry services. A retired NYPD Sergeant, Dr. Pope integrates practical experience with critical theory to produce applied, community-centered research aimed at advancing justice reform and educational equity.
