STEM Early Start
STEM Early Start gives you the opportunity to take your first math course over the summer and meet faculty, staff, and other students before the fall. As an Early Start student, you will earn credit for your MAT 105 general education requirement while you familiarize yourself with college coursework and resources at John Jay.

When are Early Start classes offered?
- When: Monday through Thursday, July 14 to August 14 (5 weeks)
- Time: 9:30am−2:00pm, In-person
What can I expect?
Your Early Start experience includes class time, activities to prepare you for college success, and assignments to complete on your own. Expect to spend at least four hours a day on campus but set aside additional time to complete assignments. Don’t worry, you’ll receive guidance every step of the way!
How do I sign up?
Summer 2025 application is now open. Submit your Early Start Application by July 1st (takes less than 5 minutes to complete)! Seats are limited and filled on a first come, first served basis. - Time: 9:30am−2:30pm, In-person
What can I expect?
You'll be learning chemistry in the mornings with an instructor and student assistant who will also help you navigate what it means to be a successful college student. The class includes assignments and quizzes, time in the lab and using your Chemistry book. You will have an hour for lunch, and the afternoons will include workshops on time management, study techniques, building your identity as a scientist, and early access to research activities, college resources, and community building.
