There are three student employment opportunities within the Office of Student Transition Programs vary from seasonal (summer/winter) to long-term (academic year) depending on availability. As of June 2025, please note that all positions are filled.

Those positions and job descriptions are listed below:

New Student Orientation Leaders (OL) will assist in implementing the New Student Orientation (NSO) programs for the Fall and Spring semesters. The primary role of an OL is to provide guidance to new students and facilitate Orientation activities. Orientation Leaders will develop meaningful relationships with others, gain practical competence to carry out duties successfully, and develop an understanding of their personal leadership development.

Orientation Leaders are hired seasonally:

  • For Fall Orientation Leaders, the hiring process will occur in the prior Spring semester. Hired OLs typically work from the end of July to the end of August.
  • For Spring Orientation Leaders, the hiring process will occur in the prior Fall semester. Hired OLs typically work for the month of January.

A Peer Ambassador functions as a representative of Student Transition Programs at John Jay College. This position serves as a college assistant to the department's day to day functions providing support to incoming students, parents and families, and graduating students in New Student Orientation, Parent and Family Programs, Commencement, and more .

Peer Ambassadors are typically hired for the entire academic year (July to June).

A Peer Ambassador Interpreter functions as a representative of Student Transition Programs at John Jay College. They provide translation and interpretation services for parents and families during Parent and Family Orientations, Parent and Family Newsletters and more to ensure that we are meeting our community's needs.

Peer Ambassador Interpreters are typically hired for the academic year (August to May).
