As you prepare for next semester, use your advisor’s follow-up email, your DegreeWorks Audit & Plan, and the John Jay College Bulletin to select courses. Focus on required prerequisites, general education classes, and major recommendations.

Make sure to check your enrollment date/time and resolve any registration holds in CUNYFirst
If you’re facing academic challenges, take action early—speak with your professor, use tutoring services, and consider withdrawal only after consulting your advisor and financial aid.

- Keep the follow-up email accessible—it contains all the key links you’ll need for course planning.

- Prioritize sequential and prerequisite courses recommended by your advisor in your Student Education Plan.
- Choose still needed general education and major courses as suggested
- Still Needed courses are noted in the Degree Audit with a red circle
- You can access DegreeWorks by logging into CUNY First and going to your Student Center
- Use your DegreeWorks to identify which general education and major courses you still need—these are marked with red circles
- Explore course options and descriptions in the college bulletin
- Select a few favorite courses from each still needed category so you’re ready to choose the best fit for your schedule once registration opens.
- Check the Course Planning and Enrollment page on your Student Center to find out your enrollment start date and time.
- Confirm that your advising hold was cleared after your mandatory advising session (located in Tasks and Holds)
- Resolve any other holds directly with the department that issued them.
- Remember, only John Jay holds will block your course registration.

- If a professor issues a progress report, follow up promptly to take action.
- If you’ve used all available resources like tutoring and advising but still need to withdraw from a course, discuss it with your advisor and financial aid to understand the impact.
