Jillian Snider ‘05,‘18, adjunct lecturer in the Department of Law, Police Science & Criminal Justice, was elected to the Council on Criminal Justice, which advances understanding of criminal justice policy choices facing the nation and builds consensus for solutions that enhance safety and justice for all. Membership in the Council acknowledges the accomplishments of established leaders and helps develop a strong cohort of people ready and able to lead the field through future challenges.
In addition to teaching at John Jay, Snider serves as policy director of criminal justice and civil liberties at the R Street Institute. At R Street, a think tank focused on solving public policy challenges through free markets and limited government, she leads her team in all research and commentary on public policy related to the criminal justice system.
Snider is also a retired New York City Police Department officer, serving in patrol, undercover vice operations, street-level narcotics, field intelligence and anti-crime positions. She has given expert testimony before the U.S. Congress on criminal justice issues and regularly presents at academic and large-scale law enforcement conferences including the Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences, American Society of Criminology, National Association of Women Law Enforcement Executives and the National Sheriffs’ Association.
Snider is pursuing a PhD from Nova Southeastern University and earned an MPA from Marist College and an MA and BA from John Jay College.
