Dual Enrollment Degrees at John Jay
Are you pursuing a STEM associates degree at a participating Community College and plan to earn Bachelor's degree? Do you want a seamless transition from your two-year program to a four-year program and to graduate on time? If so, CUNY Justice Academy (CJA) is the right program for you.
The CJA is a partnership between CUNY community colleges and John Jay College designed to help you make the transition to a baccalaureate degree. CJA students who complete their associate degree at a participating institution can transfer to John Jay and complete their bachelor’s degree in forensic science (FOS), cell & molecular biology (CMB), toxicology (TOX), computer science (CSIS) or applied mathematics.
The Program for Research Initiatives in Science & Math at John Jay provides CJA students majoring in STEM at CUNY Community Colleges with special science outings and lectures, behind-the-scenes programming and presentations and opportunities to engage in research at John Jay or a CJA partner. These opportunities are designed to get you immersed in your respective STEM fields while allowing you to interact with your future professors and peers at John Jay.

- Hostos Community College
- Bronx Community College
- Borough of Manhattan Community College
- Kingsborough Community College
- La Guardia Community College
- Queensborough Community College
Eligibility
To transition to John Jay as a CJA student, you should:
- Enroll and successfully complete your associate’s degree at one of our partner CUNY Community Colleges with one of the following majors:
- Applied Mathematics (AMM)
- Cell & Molecular Biology (CMB)
- Computer Science and Information Security (CSIS)
- Forensic Science (FOS)
- Toxicology (TOX)
- Have a GPA of 2.5 GPA in your math and science courses.
- For forensic science:
- Complete Quantitative Analysis (CHE 220) at John Jay College (for HCC, BCC, BMCC, and KBCC) or at your institution (when offered) BEFORE transferring to John Jay.
- Failure to complete Quantitative Analysis before transferring to JJC will delay your graduation date by a year.
- Complete Quantitative Analysis (CHE 220) at John Jay College (for HCC, BCC, BMCC, and KBCC) or at your institution (when offered) BEFORE transferring to John Jay.
Application
The application opens at the beginning of each term, until we have reached capacity. Selected eligible students begin as part of the Program immediately.
All Students, regardless of citizenship status, are welcome to apply and participate in our programs. Because our programs are externally funded via federal or state grants, we can only provide stipends and other financial support to eligible U.S. Citizens and permanent residents.

As Part of the Program, You Will:
- Receive personalized academic advisement to ensure you are on your way to graduate on time.
- Participate in professional and personal development activities and workshops about many topics like:
- How to search and apply for internships.
- Developing resiliency when faced with obstacles.
- Career panels with John Jay STEM alumni and others who have been where you are.
- How to look for jobs, apply to post-graduate programs, and get good references.
- Developing better study skills.
- Obtain career guidance in science, technology, health and the NYS-licensed professions.
- Participate in study-group events, and meet your peers in the STEM majors at John Jay.
- Get a stipend (~$300) each term that you complete the program requirements.
