Academic Advising at John Jay: What to Expect

All John Jay students are assigned an academic advisor who will guide you during your four years at John Jay.

· During your first and second semester, advisement is mandatory before you can register for next semester.

· To clear your CUNYFirst Advising hold, schedule and attend your mandatory advising session via Navigate

Navigate360 Scheduling Option

  • Log into Navigate360 using your CUNYFirst credentials
  • Once logged in, use the link in the yellow bar at the top of the homepage to schedule your mandatory advising session.

Your advisor stays with you throughout your time at John Jay and will help you build a plan based on your goals. If you need help before your appointment, peer advisors are available. Be sure to contact us if your AP/college credits haven’t posted or your major is listed incorrectly in DegreeWorks.

DegreeWorks helps you track your progress toward graduation and plan future courses. Your advisor will update your student education plan (SEP) with preliminary suggestions before your meeting.

  • Green check – Requirement is complete.
  • Blue half circle – Requirement is in progress.
  • Red circle – Requirement is still needed.

Aim to maintain a strong GPA

If your GPA drops below 2.0, you’ll be placed on Academic Probation, which can impact financial aid and other opportunities.
