Wall Street Journal Ranks John Jay #5 Nationwide for Best Value

John Jay College was ranked #5 in the nation for best value by The Wall Street Journal. The ranking, developed by The Wall Street Journal in partnership with College Pulse and Statista, estimates how quickly graduates earn back the cost of their degree based on how much additional income they earn. 

Committed to educating fierce advocates for justice, this recognition reflects John Jay’s mission to provide students from historically underrepresented communities with access to higher education and the economic, social and other benefits of earning a college degree. With tuition a fraction of the average cost of attending comparable colleges nationwide, 85% of John Jay students graduate with $0 student debt. In an interview with the paper, CUNY Chancellor Félix V. Matos Rodríguez noted the importance of affordability in students’ success, citing the average four-year, in-state CUNY tuition of about $7,000 a year. “We try very, very hard to keep that tuition price extremely affordable,” said Rodríguez.  

Additionally, The Wall Street Journal ranked John Jay #12 in the nation student experience, based on a survey of student satisfaction with campus facilities, social life and diversity.
